Serving at St. Margaret


St. Margaret's Parish emphasizes the call of all Catholics to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and the Church to the entire world. This is done by our parish staff with the aid of active members of the parish. We offer Pastoral Care in the following areas:

  • Bereavement Ministry

The bereaved are contacted at the time of a death and helped to prepare for the wake, liturgy and committal of their loved ones. A month's mind Mass is scheduled for the deceased and an annual Lazarus Mass is arranged for all the dead of the the year. Contacts are made often with the bereaved.

Person with disabilities (Disabilities Ministry)

We have begun our Renewal and Restoration program mindful of persons with disabilities. This has included making all renovations handicapped accessible, as well as adding hearing assistance devices in the Church and improved lighting.

  • The Jewish Community

Fr. Ray has built up a very stable relationship with the Jewish Community through Judeo-Christian Marriages, and Judeo-Christian Baptisms. The Jewish people seem comfortable coming to our Church.

Neighbors of other Christian and non-Christian faith traditions are always welcomed at St. Margaret. Within our community we have brothers and sisters who come to pray with us from many traditions. We have been blessed over the years to have a number of people make a decision to study the Roman Catholic Faith and to ask for baptism or to come into full communion with the Church.

  • Pro-life/Respect Life Committees

The purpose of the Pro-life/Respect Life Committee committee is to support and promote the culture of life that our Holy Father John Paul II has referred to. Through parish respect life committees, the Gospel of Life becomes a living reality in communities across the Archdiocese of Boston.

Through ongoing prayer and education we provide the inestimable power of intercessory prayer, life affirming referrals, and an array of compassionate care of programs which foster reverence for life from conception until natural death.

Working with the support and guidance of the Pro-Life Office, our committee works to heighten public awareness of life issues while providing the information and loving care that celebrate the gift of life. We at St. Margaret strive to catechize parishioners about the Church's teaching on:

  • abortion,
  • capital punishment,
  • physician-assisted suicide
  • and other life issues

through bulletin inserts and other suggested videos from the Pro-Life Office. Participation in Archdiocesan workshops and the Walk for Life (both local and national) are also part of the pro-life activity here at St. Margaret.

Separated and Divorced Catholics are treated with the greatest delicacy and encourage to be a vital part of the sacramental life of the parish.

  • Social Events
St. Margaret hosts many social events in order to foster a sense of community within the parish. These include:
 
  • Spaghetti suppers
  • St. Patrick's Day dinner and entertainment for our senior citizens
  • musicals and concerts with the choir and glee clubs
  • dances
  • plays and pageants performed by the children's musical ensemble
  • Hospitality Hours after the 8:30am Friday Mass
The hospitality Committee is chaired by Terry Quinn.  Terry along with a few other parishioners, host many of these receptions and coffee hours on Fridays.
 
  • We have a family picnic at the beginning of the school year to welcome everyone back

The unemployed are helped whenever we become aware of their problems:

  • Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets are provided.
  • Toys are given at Christmas
  • and sometimes oil is provided to heat home

  • Visiting the sick, homebound and dying

Our communion calls visit these people to help them out in whatever way they see fit. Mass is offered for the Senior Citizens in the parish. Whenever we become aware of dying parishioners, they are appropriately taken care of. We are always looking for new volunteers to assist us.

  • Main Objectives:

  • To draw young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today
  • To advocate Christian principles via Mass participation and service projects
  • To provide youth with the tools to make healthy decisions when confronted with peer challenges

  • To nurture a strong sense of Parish life
  • and the MOST important objective: To do it while having fun!

Young Adult Ministry serves Single Men and Women in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. There are times set aside to strengthen spirituality, to give direct service to the poor and to celebrate socially.
