Fourteenth Station: Jesus is laid in the tomb.

Fourteenth Station: Jesus is laid in the tomb.

Our Father....
Hail Mary....
Glory Be to the Father....

We brought Jesus' body to a tomb and I arranged it there myself, silently weeping, silently rejoicing. I took one more look at my kingly Son, and then walked out. They closed the tomb and I left. Now the seed is planted in rich earth, I thought. Now we have only to wait for God to reveal his wonders! All is completed, all is perfect, because this New Adam, the Christ, had dared to believe in his Father’s perfect will for him.

It is very necessary that you know this, because your presumption still obscures it from you: sacrifice is not just one cry of surrender. No, it includes a whole train of inabilities and humiliations of all kinds. We must surrender and continue to surrender, and we must feel the darkness and cold of the tomb for a time. The more you are reduced to nothing, the more your shall be rich for the glory of God. We will all die and be laid in our own tombs, and so make the ultimate act of trust in God’s providence. My Son is in His hands now, as we will be. Let no more be said.

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, you were drawn by the Father from the darkness of death to the light of a new life in glory. Grant that the sign of the empty tomb may speak to us and to future generations and become a wellspring of living faith, generous love, and unshakeable hope. To you, O Jesus, whose presence, hidden and victorious, fills the history of the world, be honour and glory for ever and ever.
