Twelfth Station: Jesus dies on the Cross for the sins of mankind.
Our
Father....
Hail Mary....
Glory Be to the Father....
What
greater pain is there for a mother than to see her son die before
her eyes! I, who had brought this savior into the world and watched
him grow, stood helplessly beneath his cross as he lowered his
head and died. His earthly anguish was finished,
but mine was greater than ever. And yet, he died as a great King,
handing over his spirit freely. All was complete, all was made
perfect in this one death. John was my new son, and I his mother,
as I am a mother to all who believe in the Christ.
My children, ask for the grace of perseverance, and do not be sure of yourselves.
It is grand to die on the cross, in sentiments of peace and love. It is grand
to stay at the foot of the cross right to the end, without doubting and without
terror, but how many were we? I ask you to stay with my Son, to the end, but
I know many of you will not. Not the first time. But maybe the second time, because
He gives us a chance every day to stand with him at the Cross, in the Holy Mass,
and in every difficult situation. Do not, I beg you, abandon my Son.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, in the moment of your
agony you were not indifferent to humanity’s fate, and with
your last breath you entrusted to the Father’s mercy the men
and women of every age, with all their weaknesses and sins. Fill
us with your Spirit, so that our indifference will not render vain
the fruits of your death. To you, crucified Jesus, the wisdom and
the power of God, be honour and glory for ever and ever.
