Our
Father....
Hail Mary....
Glory Be to the Father....
I
followed close behind my son as he stumbled toward Calvary. Nothing
had ever hurt me like seeing him in such pain, seeing the cross
digging into his shoulders. My heart dropped when I saw him fall
face to the ground, the heavy cross landing squarely on his back.
For a moment I thought he was dead. The soldiers began to kick
and swear at him. He rose slowly and began to walk again, yet
they still whipped him. I felt a physical drive to protect him
with my own body, but all I could do was protect him with my heart.
Learn not to be scandalized by human weakness, this weakness that the Divine
Christ became in his body and his soul. Because of Jesus lying beneath the Cross,
be compassionate, devoted, and come to the aid of the weakness of your neighbor.
Be humble before the weakness of your own body; bear with it in simplicity, and
know that God will give you the strength, if you are fulfilling his will. Contemplate
the weakness of my Son’s body and see how he picked up that body, and that
cross, after falling. Calvary is till far off, and we can make it, with God’s
help.
Prayer: O Christ, as you fall under the weight of
our faults and rise again for our justification, we pray, help us
and all who are weighed down by sin to stand up again and continue
the journey. Give us the strength of the Spirit to carry with you
the cross of our weakness. To you, O Jesus, crushed under the weight
of our faults be our praise and love for ever.
